Mini-Vacation, Huge Post

So Tony and I realized awhile ago that we have been married for almost four years now and have never been camping together, even though we own a tent (ridiculous, I know). We have been wanting (and needing) to get away for quite some time, so this seemed like the perfect little getaway that the deli would allow us to take. Lucky for us, our friends Mandi and Don love to camp, so we asked them if they wanted to join us on our first outing. They were nice enough to agree, and so we headed out to Jolley's Ranch up Hobble Creek Canyon for a weekend of fun. We ate good food, played games, "hiked," rested, relaxed, laughed, and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Here are some pictures of our mini-vacation:

Here's our campground...
And our cute little tent which we inconveniently set up right next to a streetlamp so the light blared into our tent while we were trying to sleep. Yeah, we're pros when it comes to stuff like that. Camping's not really our thing, if I didn't mention that before.

Us "hiking." The camp host/ranger said there was a nice trail right up from our campground. We got all ready to go with our hiking sticks, snacks, and water bottles, only to find the trail ends less than 100 yards up.

Robbie loved picking the wildflowers and dandelions though, so no major let-downs there.

At Jolley's Ranch, they have a really nice playground so we took Robbie over to play on Saturday afternoon while the boys played frisbee. Every time we looked over, there were more and more kids playing with Tony and Don. They were great to let everyone play with them, even when one little girl kept egging them on to "give her a challenge". :)

One of the highlights was playing Mad Gab. We got laughing so hard at each other trying to figure the sayings out. We teamed up boys vs. girls (or the naughties vs. the nice-ies according to the boys and our scorecard) and the girls came back from a staggering defecit to win the game! Whoop whoop! Go Naughties!

Surprisingly, the boys had more fun chopping wood than anything else I think. Every couple hours, they were at it again. I can't complain though, because we never worried about having a nice fire to cook on or to stay warm by.
I even warmed up a little for Girl's Camp by making Mandi do "Toot-a-totty." She was less than thrilled, I'm sure, but was still a good sport about it.

One thing's for sure--we had plenty of food. The last day's breakfast was a trick to get the cinnamon rolls to cook. But after several tries and several fails, we got it about right.

Overall, we had a great time together and were really sad to pack up and get back to life and responsibility.

But, reality calls. So here we are, back in the real world. I hate the real world sometimes...although it does come with a much warmer and more comfortable bed!

What a fun little first camping experience! i"m interested to know what toot-a-tooty is (was that what it was called). I don't know... it looked like Mandi was really enjoying it! I wanted to say thanks again for meeting us at Cafe Rio. We're going to miss all of you guys.
